Meteor Parking achieves 102nd Park Mark Safer Parking Award

30 July 2010
The Park Mark® Safer Parking Award is granted to parking facilities that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the Police. Car park operators across the UK are increasingly aware of the Park Mark® scheme and the benefits it brings to help prevent crime and boost confidence with residents and visitors.

Car parks with the award can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark® tick, so that drivers know exactly where to go for safe parking. Certain parking facilities that have received the Park Mark® Safer Parking Award have seen a drop in vehicle-related crime of over 80%.

Meteor Parking has just been awarded its 102nd Safer Parking Award, establishing the company as only the second in the UK to reach the milestone of over 100 awards. Part of the Go-Ahead Group plc, Meteor Parking runs 40,000 car parking spaces at various locations throughout the UK including airports, hospitals, train stations, retail outlets and hotels and is second only to parking giant NCP in the number of Safer Parking Awards it has received.

To achieve the awards, Meteor has been recognized for putting in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime.

Dave Garwood, director of operations support at Meteor said ‘We are very pleased that we have been able to gain so many awards, it is an achievement that we are all very proud of and a group effort that we could not have achieved without the co-operation of all our staff. At Meteor we take safety very seriously and are continually improving the service we offer to our customers by introducing innovative safety measures such as automatic number plate recognition systems’.

Kelvin Reynolds, Head of the SPS at the British Parking Association, which manages the scheme for the Associations of Chief Police Officers (ACPO/S) throughout the UK said “We are delighted that Meteor has achieved this impressive milestone and they are to be congratulated on their achievements and commitment to the Scheme. With numbers of award holders set to continue to grow, all over the UK, it is our intention to make sure even more consumers know about the scheme, so that award holders get maximum benefit from their drive and commitment to keeping their facilities safe. We want people to actively choose to park where they see the Park Mark® sign.”
